PicturePhoto from National Geographic 2015 Photo Contest winner A.M. Ahad

Ask your students to "read" the photo of the day and label all the details they see.  This activity will help students with attention to detail, improving vocabulary as they work with others, and making inferences.

Make a copy of the photo or project on the board.  This could become a great spring board for writing. Use the "Adding 20 Details" Mini-Lesson to help your students gather more details.

~ Students should lists things they see in the photo.
~ Students should make inferences and predictions based on details        from the photo.
*Ask students to predict what will happen next.
*Ask students to infer where the photo was taken, what time of year
is it, what are the people/animals doing, thinking, feeling, needing,
     or wanting.
